Osula thrilled to complete Newcastle switch from Sheffield United

William Osula has expressed his delight in completing his move to Newcastle United from Sheffield United, Afrosport reports.

The 21-year-old Danish striker, who is of Nigerian heritage, penned a five-year contract for a fee believed to be worth £15 million.

He made 31 competitive appearances last season for Sheffield United, scoring three goals. His impact was however not enough to save the Blades as they finished bottom of the log, 16 points shy of safety and got relegated instantly back to the Championship.

Osula is now looking forward to the new chapter of his career.

“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United,” he told the club website.

“It’s a great opportunity, and as soon as I heard about Newcastle’s interest, I knew I had to take the chance to join this club if it came.

“It has come, and I’m really happy to be here.”

Speaking on Osula’s arrival at St James’ Park, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said: “William is a talented young forward with all the attributes to be an exciting player for Newcastle United.

“We have watched his development closely and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with him in this next step in his career.

“I know our supporters will join me in giving William a very warm welcome to the club and the city.”

Osula is the sixth acquisition for Newcastle this summer after signing Miodrag Pivas, Odysseas Vlachodimos, John Ruddy, Lloyd Kelly and Lewis Hall.

He was born in Denmark and has been capped six times with the country’s U-21 side, scoring one goal. He is eligible to play for the Denmark senior team or Nigeria by virtue of his father.
