Frances Tiafoe was unable to progress at the 2024 Wimbledon after losing a five-set third round battle 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, 5-7(2-7), 2-6 to defending champion Carlos Alcaraz on Friday.
The 26-year-old American of Sierra Leone heritage was broken by Alcaraz in the sixth game of the first set but was able to bounce back by breaking his opponent twice to take the set in 55 minutes.
Alcaraz broke Tiafoe twice in the second set to win in just 37 minutes but the latter was able to respond in the third set which he took in 50 minutes.
The fourth set saw both players hold their serves but Alcaraz was the one to make the difference in the tiebreak which he won 7-2.

The 21-year-old Spaniard was unmatched in the fifth and final set and won the match after three hours and 53 minutes.
