Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca is thrilled with the return of Wilfred Ndidi after he featured in the Foxes’ narrow 1-0 win at Sunderland in the Championship on Tuesday night.
The Nigerian midfielder has been out of action since the start of the year with a muscular injury which forced him to miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles.
He however returned to action against the Black Cats, coming on in the 72nd minute for Yunus Akgun for his 22nd league appearance with two goals and five assists to his name.

Maresca reacting to Ndidi’s return said: “…I’m very happy. We need him, Wilf is so important to us so it’s good to have him back.”
Reacting to the victory, Maresca added: “It’s an important win. Especially after three defeats in a row. Sometimes you have to win games in an ugly way. [In the] first half we were quite good, in the second half we suffered, but in this moment, the win is so important.”
Tuesday’s victory was Leicester’s first win after three consecutive losses in the Championship and has kept them three points clear of Ipswich Town at the top of the table.
