AFCON 2023 top scorer Emilio Nsue suspended indefinitely by Equatorial Guinea

2023 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer, Emilio Nsue has been suspended by the Equatoguinean Football Federation for series of indiscipline.

Nsue was sanctioned alongside midfielder Ivan Salvador after the FeGuiFut reviewed the team’s performance and conduct at the just-concluded AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Nsue emerged as the star of Juan Micha’s team by scoring five goals in four matches before Equatorial Guinea’s round of 16 exit.

A part of the statement released by FeGuiFut read: “For incurring several episodes of serious indiscipline, before and after participating in the National Selección in the 34th Edition of the Africa Cup of Nations: therefore, his competition in the National Selección is suspended until new notice.

“Don Iván Salvador, on the 29th of this year, he was involved in an unpleasant incident in the city of Abijan that led to the intervention of the police of this country, causing a notable delay in the return of the expedition to Ecuatorial Guinea and a possible delay degradation in the reputation and image of both the Selección and Ecuatorial Guinea.”

It remains to be seen if Nsue and Ivan Salvador will be reinstated back to the Equatorial Guinea national team before their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Tunisia and Malawi in June.
