David Datro Fofana says he told Burnley manager Vincent Kompany he would score when he was about to be introduced off the bench in the Clarets’ 2-2 Premier League draw at home to Fulham on Saturday.
Burnley fell behind to first half strikes from Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Muniz but had a lifeline when Fofana, who is currently on loan from Chelsea, came on for Zeki Amdouni in the 63rd minute and netted a brace in the 71st minute and in added time.
It was the Ivorian’s first set of goals for Burnley in his second appearance since moving to Turf Moor after his loan deal at German club Union Berlin was terminated.
“Before I came on, the manager said to me the same thing, focus David – we need you, we want you to help the team. Why not also score. I said I will score, I will score because I was like focus on that, to help the team,” Fofana told the Burnley website.

He continued: “For me they [Burnley teammate] are so good. The manager has been good, also he speaks French, so it’s good for me to understand everything – even if my English is not so good. Also, with the team they are so good, especially because I’m new, my teammates are easy to adapt and everything.”
Kompany speaking on Fofona’s performance said: “He (Fofana) was aggressive, wanted to win every duel, he’s very fast and it’s a good starting point for him and we’re fortunate to recruit him.
“These type of players can decide to go somewhere else and have other options but he’s ready to put it all on the line for us.”
Saturday’s result sees Burnley winless in five league games (D2 L3) and occupy 19th place on the table, seven points away from safety.
