Victor Osimhen has expressed delight with Nigeria’s progress at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations despite his struggles to score goals in Ivory Coast.
Osimhen is leading the Super Eagles’ attack in the tournament but has struggled to score goals as the West African country aim for a fourth AFCON crown.
The Napoli striker has only scored a goal in five appearances for Nigeria at the ongoing AFCON which came in their opening Group A match against Equatorial Guinea.
On Friday against Angola, Osimhen found the back of the net with his second-half header but the goal was ruled out for offside after VAR review, a decision that he accepted as Nigeria advanced into the semi-final.
Ademola Lookman scored the only goal for Super Eagles in the 1-0 victory over the Sable Black Antelopes
Osimhen told Afrosport: “I want to score. If it goes in, it goes in but I think I was partly offside.
“Football is like that, there is VAR so you have to be careful.
“We just have to keep moving, the most important thing is that the team got the win and we move on to the next round.”
Nigeria await the winner of the game between Cape Verde and South Africa in the semis.
