Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has hinted that he would stick with the same strategy he has been using at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Cameroon on Saturday.
Peseiro, in a press conference on Friday, admitted that Nigeria are struggling to score goals but they will get better with their conversion in the knockout phase of the tournament.
The Super Eagles have struggled to score just three goals after three matches in Ivory Coast and they are aiming for a spot in the quarter-final at the expense of old foes, Cameroon.
Peseiro told the media: “I saw the statistics yesterday, we created the highest number of chances in the group stage.
“If we create chances, then why do we need change our style of play. Our team is playing well, we don’t need to change our strategy.
“What we need to do is start converting our chances. That’s what has been lacking for us.
“I think at times you can create less chances and score more goals. We hope things will improve for us in this aspect tomorrow.
“We want to score and win. It is important to defend well like we have been doing since that start of the competition.”
Nigeria might need to find their goalscoring boots in time against the Indomitable Lions as the last five games between the two countries at the Africa Cup of Nations produced at least three goals.
The last meeting at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt ended in a 3-2 win for the Super Eagles with Orion Ighalo grabbing a brace followed by an Alex Iwobi’s strike.
