Ghana striker Jordan Ayew has warned Egypt that they will force their way to get a positive result at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars fell to the bottom of Group B after a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde in their opening game while Egypt were held to a 2-2 draw by Mozambique.
The West Africans need to avoid defeat at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium to keep alive their hopes of making it into the knockout stage of the competition.
After struggling to impress against Cape Verde on Sunday, the Crystal Palace striker talks up the importance of Thursday’s match and the Black Stars’ ambition to make a statement in Ivory Coast.
“It is a big day and we know it’s a big day,” Ayew told the media. “We know how much it means to Ghanaians. And for me personally.
“We want to perform, we want to perform in this tournament. We didn’t just come here to visit Abidjan. We came here to perform well. So we will see today.
“We are ready. And I wouldn’t agree when you say people lack commitment. No one lacks commitment. Everyone is fully committed.
“Sometimes things go our way other times they don’t. But we need to force things and tomorrow we are going to force things and we will see after that.”
The last time Egypt faced Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations was in 2017 and the Pharaohs triumphed by 1-0 in Gabon.
