AFCON 2023: Ivory Coast coach Gasset plans fast attack against Nigeria

Ivory Coast coach Jean-Louis Gasset has hinted that his team would attack Nigeria more quickly in their second Group A match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Elephants are hoping to secure qualification for the knockout stage of the tournament with a win in Abidjan on Thursday.

Ivory Coast defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in their opening fixture, thanks to goals from Seko Fofana and Jean-Philippe Krasso.

During his engagement with the press on Wednesday, Gasset said the Elephants will improve of their last win when they lock horns against the Super Eagles at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe.

“The good attitude and improving from the first match, we did things very well even at the start of the match,” the French coach told the media.

“We opened the scoring within 15 minutes, we could have scored a second goal if we hadn’t found the goalkeeper.

“We are going to improve our game, have more technical games, in weak times, be better in the transferring of the ball, especially more quickly, find our attackers more quickly.

“We have multiple sources of work (players), always avoid the same state of mind, because everyone is important. No one is ruling out trying to bring back people who were disappointed, because we have many games ahead.”

The last AFCON match between Ivory Coast and Nigeria ended in a 2-1 win in favour of the latter, in a quarter-final fixture back in 2013.
