Ivory Coast made it two wins from two games in Group F of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers after defeating The Gambia 2-0 on Monday evening.
The Elephants were fresh off an emphatic 9-0 win over Seychelles in their opening qualifier and went ahead against the Scorpions via Fiorentina forward Christian Kouame, who was an unused substitute against Seychelles, just before the halftime break.
It remained 1-0 to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations champions until the 86th minute when Franck Kessie assisted Seko Fofona for the second goal. It was the Al Nassr midfielder’s second goal in as many games having netted against Seychelles.
The result sees the Ivorians tied on six points with Gabon but with a far superior goal difference.
In Group H, Equatorial Guinea made it two wins from two games with a 1-0 win over Liberia in Monrovia. Emilio Nsue was the lone scorer just as he was in the opener against Namibia.
In Group A, Guinea-Bissau temporarily moved to second place behind Egypt with a 1-0 win over bottom side Djibouti, Mauro Rodrigues with the only goal.
