Leicester City have ruled Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi out of action until after this month’s international due to a muscular injury.
The Foxes manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that the Ndidi will miss their matches against Leeds United and Middlesbrough to continue his recovery from the setback, and it rules him out of Nigeria’s games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 26-year-old has missed Leicester City’s last two games because of the injury.
“Wilf [Ndidi] will be out until the international break. It is also a muscular problem. It’s a small thing but when the problem is muscular, even if it’s small, it’s always one week or two weeks because we don’t want to take any risks,”Mascera told the club website.
Leicester City currently sit atop the Championship table with 39 points from 14 matches but Nigeria will be counting on Ndidi to be fully fit for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast.
The Leicester City star is key player Jose Peseiro’s squad and they have been locked in Group A of AFCON 2023 alongside host Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.
