Super Eagles record friendly win over 10-man Mozambique in Portugal

Iheanacho on target as Kanno scores late freekick in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia four-goal thriller

The Super Eagles of Nigeria claimed a 3-2 win over 10-man Mozambique in an international friendly at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira on Monday afternoon.

The West African giants played out a 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia in Portimao last Friday and coach Jose Peseiro made nine changes to the starting XI with goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and left-back Bruno Onyemaechi retaining their places.

The Mambas took the lead in the sixth minute after goalkeeper Uzoho fluffed his lines once again which allowed Geny Catamo to score with consummate ease.

The Super Eagles were however able to claw their way back, starting with OGC Nice star Terem Moffi netting a rebounded effort from close range before Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka made it 2-1 with a brilliant strike just outside the penalty area.

Mozambique were reduced to 10 men in the 38th minute after Edmilson Dove received a straight red card for a foul. Nigeria extended their lead in added time after a penalty was awarded to them for a hand ball from a freekick. Nantes winger Moses Simon stepped up to cooly convert the spot kick.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Mozambique still managed to score one more goal which came courtesy of Faisal Bangal in the 55th minute.

The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers where they play Southern African sides Lesotho and Zambabwe next month.
