‘We needed this’ – South Africa’s Foster on Burnley’s first Premier League win of the season

Lyle Foster says Burnley’s first Premier League win of the season was very much needed after they defeated fellow newly-promoted side Luton Town 2-1 at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night.

The South African forward was returning from a three-match suspension for a straight red card he received in the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on September 18 and opened the scoring in added time of the first half. Though Luton equalised through Anglo-Nigerian Elijah Adebayo late on, Jacob Bruun Larsen responded instantly with the winner.

Foster is now hoping Burnley can carry on with the performance when they host Chelsea at Turf Moor this weekend.

“It’s something big, I think we needed this, it’s something the locker room needed,” Foster told the club website.

“We’ve done well in the beginning of the season, tough games, but I think we were able to show ourselves against really good teams as well.

“I think we just needed this one for the confidence going into the weekend against Chelsea. Hopefully we can step it up again and then go into the break with good momentum.”

Burnley manager said about Foster: “It was a shame for him to be ruled out the last three games after starting strong but it showed signs of being in a place where he belongs.”

The victory sees Burnley still lurking in the relegation zone in 18th place but are tied on four points with Everton and Luton who are above them in 16th and 17th respectively while Bournemouth and Sheffield United occupy 19th and 20th place respectively.
