Congo-born Ibaka leaves NBA to join Bayern Munich

Serge Ibaka has ended his 14-year stint in the NBA to begin a new adventure in the German Basketball Bundesliga and EuroLeague with Bayern Munich.

Ibaka who lasted played in Europe with Spanish team Manresa in 2009, signed a one-year contract with the Bavarians.

The 34-year-old will be expected to bring his wealth of experience to Bayern Munich after playing a total of 919 NBA regular games and 152 playoff games, with an average of 12 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

He was an NBA champion with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and he currently plays for Spain on the international scene helping the European country win silver at the London 2012 Olympic Games and the gold medal at the 2011 Eurobasket.

Ibaka who was drafted into the NBA in 2008 also played for Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Clippers and most recently,  Milwaukee Bucks in 2022 before his contract was terminated in the beginning of 2023 due to lack of regular playing time.

The Congolese made the NBA All-Defensive First Team on three occasions (2011-12, 2012-13 & 2013-14).
