World Athletics Championships: Amusan through to women’s 100m hurdles final

Tobi Amusan went a step closer to defending her world title by qualifying for the women’s 100m hurdles final at the ongoing World Athletics Championship in Budapest.

Amusan shoved off her slow start to edge Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent and lead the second semi-final race with a time of 12.56 seconds, four seconds ahead of Nugent.

Wednesday’s result saw a decline in Amusan’s pace after she clocked 12.48 seconds to win her Heat on Tuesday.

Next up for Amusan is a challenge against Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quin who is unbeaten this season and led the third semi-final with a time of 12.41 seconds and former world record holder, USA’s Kendra Harrison who posted 12.33 seconds to win the first semi-final.

Devynne Charlton of Bahrain, Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, USA’s Nia Ali and Jamaica’s Danielle Williams complete the start list for Thursday’s final.

The Nigeria star is aiming to defend the world title she claimed in last year’s edition in Eugene, after setting a new world record of 12.12 seconds in the lead-up to the final.
