The Jamaica women’s national football team have progressed to the FIFA Women’s World Cup knockout phase for the very first time after holding Brazil to a 0-0 draw in their final Group F game at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Wednesday.
The Reggae Girlz sealed their first-ever victory in the previous game against Panama, winning 1-0. All they needed against the Brazilians was a draw and the Caribbean nation were able to hold firm to get the job done.
Brazil had more chances with 17 total goal attempts, eight of them on target while the Jamaicans had only four total goal attempts, none on target.
The game saw the return of Jamaica skipper Khadija Shaw who was suspended after receiving two yellow cards in their opener against France while veteran Marta started a game for the first time and played for 80 minutes before she was replaced by Andressa Alves.

The result sees Jamaica finish second in Group F behind France who came from a goal down in Sydney to defeat Panama 6-3, Kadidiatou Diani of Malian descent netting a hat-trick for Les Bleues.
