President of Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe and his spouse, Precious have stepped in to resolve the pay dispute between Banyana Banyana and the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
Desiree Ellis’ ladies took their protest for improved bonuses to another level on Sunday as they hesitated to play an international friendly match against Botswana on Sunday.
South Africa women were demanding for equal with the men’s national team, Bafana Bafana and also the inclusion of $30,000 appearance fee promised by FIFA.
However, Motsepe Foundation on Tuesday disclosed that they will provide each player in the Banyana Banyana selection for the Women’s World Cup with a bonus of $12,300 (230,000 rands) in addition to the FIFA bonus fee.
South Africa departed for New Zealand on Tuesday evening ahead of their final friendly match against Costa Rica on July 15.
Banyana Banyana will begin their Women’s World Cup campaign against Sweden on July 23 before Argentina and Italy in the other group G matches.
