South Africa’s Lloyd Harris edges closer to first ATP 250 title in Mallorca

South Africa’s tennis player Lloyd Harris continued his chase for his maiden ATP title with straight-sets victory in Mallorca Championships.

Harris overcame the challenge of Russia’s Pavel Kotov in Thursday’s quarter-final with a 7-5, 6-2 win in an hour and 37 minutes.

The 26-year-old will now face the winner of the game between Arthur Rinderknech and USA’s Christopher Eubanks in the Mallorca Championships semi-final on Friday.

Later today, Harris will also join his Indian partner, Yuki Bhambri for the Men’s Doubles semi-final game in the Mallorca Championships.

Harris, who made his professional tennis debut in 2015, is currently the highest-ranked African tennis player in the men’s category with his 298th position in the world.

His best ATP ranking was achieved in September 2021 when he entered the top 100 and ranked 31st in the world.

Harris will be hoping to make it into his third ATP Singles final in Mallorca on Friday and finally end the title drought in his professional career.

The South African star made it into the 2020 Adelaide International final but lost to Russia’s Andrey Rublev and in March 2021, he progressed into the Dubai Tennis Championships final but lost to another Russian, Aslan Karatsev.
