Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze has been named the best African player of the just-concluded 2022-23 season in La Liga.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a stellar season for Villarreal in the Spanish top-flight, and was given the accolade after their 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid.

The Nigerian International, who played a total of 37 matches and 2348 minutes for the Yellow Submarines in La Liga this campaign, found the back of the net six times and provided five assists.
Chukwueze wins the award after votes from thousands of fans, experts and journalists, beating competition from other Spain-based African stars which include Morocco’s Yassine Bono and Youssef En-Nesyri, Ghana’s Inaki Williams.
The former Nigerian U-17 star was an ever present for Villarreal this term, starting in 27 league games, finishing the season with a total of 13 goals in eleven assists in 50 games across all competitions.
