Tunisia’s Jabeur reaches first-ever French Open quarter-final

Ons Jabeur progressed to the quarter-finals of the French Open for the first time as she recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory over American Bernarda Pera in the fourth round on Monday.

The Tunisian star crashed out in the first round of Roland Garros last year, losing to Poland’s Magda Linette. She however made strides by reaching the Wimbledon and US Open finals to end 2022 ranked number two in the world.

Seventh seed Jabeur struggled in the first set against Pera as she was broken three times and at the start of the second set. She however held firm against her opponent ranked 36th in the world to seal her victory in 63 minutes

Jabeur has now reached the quarter-finals of all four tennis Grand Slams and hopes to continue her progress in Paris.

“I wouldn’t say it was easy, it was very tough and I’m so happy. It took me three times to get to the quarter-finals and I’m very happy to make my best result here at the French Open,” Jabeur told Eurosport after the match.

“Hopefully I can continue playing well and we will see what happens.”

Jabeur will meet face Brazilian 14th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia in the last eight on Wednesday following her fourth-round win over Sapin’s Sara Sorribes Tormo.
