Osimhen marks Napoli’s milestone with brace

Victor Osimhen was at the double in his 100th appearance for Napoli as Bologna held the Serie A champions to a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon.

The Nigerian scored his 24th and 25th goals in the league, making him only the fifth player to score 25 goals or more across Europe’s top five leagues and increasing his season’s tally to 30 goals in all competitions.

The 24-year-old opened the scoring in the 14th minute, firing into an empty net after a costly error from Bologna’s goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski to give the Partenopei the lead into halftime.

Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic should have brought the home team level six minutes into the restart, but his strike at goal was far away despite it being an open net.

Osimhen made them pay for the miss three minutes later with a beautiful strike past Skorupski for his second of the game after he was played through by Sampdoria loanee Bartosz Bereszynski.

Bologna pulled one back through 23-year-old Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson in the 61st minute. The former Aberdeen man slotted the ball past Pierluigi Gollini after the goalkeeper spilled an initial strike into his path.

Six minutes from full time, Lorenzo De Silvestri drew the home team level with an emphatic header past Gollini to increase their tally to 51 points this season, their most since the 2011–12 season.

Osimhen’s brace boosts his chances of winning the Capocannoniere award, the Italian Golden Shoe, as he currently has four goals more than Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez with just a game remaining.
