Real Madrid coach Ancelotti gives verdict on Vinicius’ future

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti expects Brazil star Vinicius Jr. to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu after the player hinted at a potential exit following non-stop racist chants targeted at him.

The 22-year-old attacker suffered the latest racist abuse during Real Madrid’s 1-0 away loss at Valencia.

When asked about Vinicius’ future at the club, Ancelotti said: “I don’t think so. He loves Real Madrid. A lot of things have gone through his head but I don’t think it’s on his mind to leave. His love for the club is very big and he wants to make his career here.

“He has not lost it [his passion for playing in Spain] no. We’ll see what his suspension is and we’ll evaluate whether to give him more or fewer days off. If he gets two games, I’ll give him a week’s holiday to be ready for the last game of the season against Athletic Bilbao. And if he gets one game, he’ll play against Sevilla.”

Ancelotti was also quizzed on Vinicius’ current state of mind and he responded; “He is very upset. But he knows he has the support of everyone, not just Madrid. It’s unconditional support and it has even come from rivals.”

Meanwhile, in Madrid on Tuesday, police officers arrested four people for allegedly committing a hate crime by hanging an effigy with Vinicius’ shirt from a bridge before Real Madrid faced Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey in January.
