Senegal’s Ndiaye honoured as Akpom wins Championship Player of the Season

Nigerian descent Chub Akpom has been named the EFL Championship Player of the Season following his blistering goalscoring form at Middlesbrough.

Akpom tops the scoring chart in the English second-tier with his tally of 28 goals in 36 league appearances for Michael Carrick’s side who sit fourth in the table.

The 27-year-old fend off competition from Burnley’s Josh Brownhill and Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres to clinch the Player of the Season prize at the EFL Awards in London on Sunday evening.

In addition to his individual recognition, Akpom was included in the Championship Team of the Season alongside Senegal international Iliman Ndiaye is playing a huge role at Sheffield United with his contribution of 13 goal in 42 league games so far.

Other winners include Burnley coach Vincent Kompany who was named the Championship Coach of the Season after securing the Clarets’ promotion to the Premier League and they are on course to lift the league title with a 10-point gap above second-placed Sheffield United.

Congolese descent Bali Mumba was named League One Young Player of the Season following his inspiring performances for Plymouth Argyle this term.
