Al Ahly wins 38th Egyptian Cup

Morocco join Spain & Portugal to bid for 2030 World Cup

Al Ahly clinched their 38th Egyptian FA Cup on Monday evening with a 2-1 victory against Pyramids after extra-time.

Three months after the semi-finals were played, the final match was played at the Cairo International Stadium due to both clubs’ involvement in the continental competitions.

Pyramids opened the scoring at the Cairo International Stadium through Walid El-Karti in the 72nd minute but the Red Devils responded almost immediately with Kahraba scoring the equaliser in the 74th minute.

The encounter went into extra time after a 1-1 draw at the end of regular time with Hamdi Fathi rising highest in the 105th minute to score the match-winning goal for Al Ahly.

It was indeed a tense encounter between the Premier League clubs as 10 yellow cards were given out with Al Ahly’s Mohamed Abdelmonem sent off just before the end of the extra time.

The result secured Al Ahly’s status as the most successful club in the Egyptian FA Cup with their 38th triumph and their first since 2020.

Pyramids, however, will continue their search for their maiden success since the club was founded in 2008. They have finished as runners-up in the Egypt Cup twice (2019 and 2022), runners-up in the Egyptian Premier League (2021-22) and runners-up in CAF Confederation Cup (2019-20).
