Defending champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Rivers United will face Tanzanian giants Yanga Sports Club in the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Nigerian representatives knew their last-eight fate at the draw ceremony that took place in Egypt’s capital city, Cairo on Wednesday night.
Stanley Eguma’s men finished second in Group B after a 1-0 loss ASEC Mimosas over the weekend while Yanga SC dominated Group D finishing ahead of Monastir, Real Bamako and TP Mazembe.
The other quarter-final fixtures will see Egyptian Premier League club Pyramids FC battle South Africa’s Marumo Gallants, Tunisia’s US Monastir also have a date with the Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosas.
The final pairing is a North African derby between Algeria’s USM Alger and Morocco’s AS FAR.
The first leg of the quarter-final games will be played on April 23 and the return fixture follows a week later. For the semi-final, the winner of the clash between Rivers United and Yanga will face the winner between Pyramids and Marumo Gallants, while the winner of the North African derby will face either US Monastir or ASEC Mimosas.
The final game of the 2022-23 CAF Confederation Cup will be in a home and away format and it is scheduled for June 4 and June 11.
