Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of Napoli’s Serie A match against AC Milan on Sunday due to injury.
The Partenopei confirmed on Friday that the Super Eagles returned to Naples with complaints of discomfort around his left abductor muscle which is now set to keep out of action.
Osimhen is Napoli’s top scorer across all competitions this season and the leading goalscorer in the Serie A with 21 goals in 23 matches.
Napoli, on Friday, announced that the 24-year-old will miss Sunday’s clash at the Stadio Armando Diego Maradona and he will be evaluated next week before their league trip to Leece which precedes their UEFA Champions League encounter against AC Milan on April 12.
“Osimhen, since his return with the national team, accusing a nuisance in his left adductor, underwent tests which showed a distractive injury. His condition will be evaluated next week,” the club statement read.
Osimhen played every minute in Nigeria’s double-header clash against Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In Osimhen’s absence, Luciano Spalletti will have to turn to either Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Giovanni Simeone, Hirving Lozano, Matteo Politano or Gicomo Raspadori to extend their record of 23 wins in 27 Serie matches this season.
