Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has promised Nigerians that the Super Eagles will win their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau on Friday.
Osimhen who leads the Italian Serie A scorer’s chart with 23 goals, said they will give their all at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium to make fans happy.
Nigeria lead Group A standings with six points from two games and victories in the two-legged fixture against Guinea-Bissau could secure their place in AFCON 2023 which will take place in the Ivory Coast in January 2024.
“We are looking forward to it and I’m happy to be back to the squad, it is an amazing feeling and really expecting amazing results in the two-legged game,” Osimhen told NFF TV. “We don’t underrate our opponent we want to give them the respect they deserve also as a team.
“Of course the boys are ready to give their all come Friday and also the second leg in Guinea-Bissau, I’m looking forward to the game and contributing to the team.
“I want to promise that we will try everything possible to get the win and of course I would like to contribute with a lot of goals and couple of assists and of course the team come first and I want to assure that they will give everything to make sure the fans are happy by getting the win and getting qualification to the next AFCON.”
Osimhen has scored five goals in two qualifying games so far, which include his four goals in the Super Eagles’ 10-0 mauling of Sao Tome and Principe in June 2022.
As the top scorer in the qualifying round, the 24-year-old is unfazed by the individual recognition as he sets sight on Jose Peseiro’s collective target for the team.
He continued: “I don’t care being the highest goal scorer in the qualification because the team comes first but if I end up the highest goal scorer it will be an amazing thing for me but the team comes first.
“I want to say thank you very much for your support, thank you for sticking with me most especially your support throughout the years. I know we might have let you down in the past and I want to say we will do everything in our power to make sure that we win your love back.”
