F1: Ferrari unveils new car for 2023 season

Ferrari have unveiled their 2023 Formula 1 car with the hope it will finally help the Scuderia end their long wait for championship success.

F1’s most famous team presented the SF-23 during an event at their Maranello base on Valentine’s Day and afterwards hit its privately-owned race track in Fiorano to complete the car’s first laps.

Ferrari will be hoping the SF-23 builds on the strengths of the 2022 car which won just four grands prix out of 22 races in what proved to be the fastest car over a single lap on average.

2022 was however a disastrous year for the Italian manufacturer as a combination of reliability problems, operational failures and driver errors saw them miss out on both the drivers and constructors championships to Red Bull Racing, extending their championship drought to 15 years.

This led to a managerial overhaul during the winter leading with Mattia Binotto leaving his post as team principal and replaced by Frederic Vasseur. The Frenchman believes the Scuderia has all the resources to win time around.

“I’m really convinced that Ferrari today, and, for sure, my experience is limited to the last two weeks, but we have everything to win,” Vasseur said.

“We have to put everything together to do a good job, but we have everything to be able to win.

“You can have a look at the results of the last decades that the wheel is always running, and it’s just a matter of continuous improvement for me.”

Ferrari maintain their driver lineup of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. for 2023. The former was beaten to the drivers championship by 146 points from Max Verstappen while the latter finished in fifth place with 246 points.
