Man Utd loanee Diallo wins two EFL awards at Sunderland

Sunderland winger Amad Diallo completed a double swoop of awards as he was voted the EFL’s Young Player of the Month and the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for December.

His impressive performances during the festive period earned him the double honour, as he scored three goals in five games, including a brilliant strike in a 4-1 win over Wigan Athletic.

The Ivorian’s season has not been a smooth sailing after spending time on the bench at the beginning of the season since his loan move from Premier League giants Manchester United.

However, he seems to have found good form for the Black Cats with seven goals and two assists across 22 games in all competitions.

“Winning this award means a lot to me because I always try to give my best on the pitch,” Diallo told the EFL.

“This type of recognition gives me great confidence to keep improving, but I also have to thank my team-mates as they help me a lot.”

“This loan is what I wanted and I am trying to make the most of my time here. I’m enjoying being part of the Club, and I enjoy every game.”

Sunderland head coach Tony Mowbray added that he has been very impressed with the performances of the 20-year-old.

“His performance level has been extremely high. He went through a purple patch, scoring almost every game, but he is always a threat to the opposition,” he said.

“Defenders hang out a leg, and he dances past them. He has scored a few goals from outside the box and he links well with the other strikers.”

The Black Cats currently sit in ninth place in the Sky Bet Championship standings with 41 points, just a point from sixth, the last spot for the Championships playoffs .
