Former Cameroon international Modeste M’bami has died at the age of 40 after suffering from a reported heart attack.
M’bami’s professional career spanned 15 years and he played for nine different clubs in five different countries, including Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Marseille in France, Almeria in Spain and Millonarios in Colombia.
His longest stints were with PSG and Marseille where he played for a combined six years between 2003 and 2009, making 201 appearances and having a hand in seven goals.
The French capital club have offered their condolences on M’bami’s passing.
“PSG learned with deep sadness of the passing of our former player Modeste M’Bami,” the 10-time Ligue 1 champions said in a Twitter post.
“The Club offers its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”

M’bami was capped 38 times for the Cameroon national team between 2000 and 2009, reaching the final of the 2003 FIFA Confederation Cup and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, but they lost to France and Egypt respectively.
The Yaounde native is famously remembered for scoring the golden goal in Cameroon’s 2-1 extra time victory over Brazil during the quarter-finals of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
The Central Africans went on to win the gold medal, beating Spain 5-3 on penalties after ending 2-2 in extra time.
