World no. 2 Rafael Nadal has announced the appointment of Gustavo Marcaccio to his coaching team.

The 36-year-old recently parted company with Francisco Roig who he has been working with since 2005 when he won his first of his 22 Grand Slams at the French Open.

Marcaccio is part of the coaching crew at Nadal’s academy in his hometown, Mallorca. The academy is famous for producing talents such as current world no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and no. 3 Casper Ruud.

“Hello everyone. I want to inform you of the joining of Gustavo Marcaccio to the technical team,” Nadal tweeted.

“Gustavo has been working at the Rafa Nadal Academy since April 2021 and I understand he is a good addition to the team. It sure will help us a lot to stay on the road. Welcome Gustavo!”

Marcaccio joins Carlos Moya and Marc Lopez who are the other members of Nadal’s coaching team.

The 22-time Grand Slam winner will be looking to defend his Australian Open crown when the first major of the year kicks off at Melbourne Park on January 16, 2023.
