Forty-seven people were reportedly injured after a man drove his car into a crowd of Liverpool fans celebrating their team’s Premier League title triumph on Monday, Afrosport reports
According to Police, the man, who is from the Liverpool area, acted alone by ramming his car into jubilant supporters.
Twenty people were reportedly treated at the scene for minor injuries, while another 27 people were taken to hospital by ambulance, including four children.
Liverpool, in a statement on X, said they were in contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident and offering full support to the emergency services and local authorities.
“We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening,” it read.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.”
The Premier League also offered its full support to Liverpool in the wake of the incident.
“Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected,” read the statement.
“We have been in contact with Liverpool FC and have offered our full support following this serious incident.”
