Chris Danjuma, head coach of Nigeria’s Under-20 Women’s team, the Falconets, has thrown his weight behind his side ahead of their crucial match against Germany at the ongoing 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
Danjuma says he is confident the Falconets will put up a better performance against the Germans in their second Group D match in Bogota on Wednesday.
“The team performed well [in the first match against Korea Republic], but I know we’re going to perform much, much better than this,” he told FIFA.com.
The Falconets won by a lone goal in their opening game against Korea Republic thanks to a late goal from Flourish Sabastine in the 86th minute in the early hours of Monday.
Meanwhile, Germany secured a 5-2 victory over Venezuela, making them the group favourites.
The match at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo will be the fifth meeting between the two sides at the U20 Women’s World Cup, with Nigeria yet to secure a victory over the Europeans.
Germany, three-time winners of the tournament, overcame Nigeria twice in the final in 2010 and 2014.
