2026WCQ: Ghana thump Chad to go top in Group I, Morocco overcome Niger

Ghana went top of Group I in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers following a commanding 5-0 win over Chad in Accra on Friday night, Afrosport reports.

Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo put the Black Stars in front after two minutes while Inaki Williams and Jordan Ayew (penalty) made it 3-0 going into the halftime break.

Otto Addo’s men still had more in the tank after the break and extended their lead through goals from Mohammed Salisu and Ernest Nuamah.

The victory moved Ghana two points clear of Madagascar at the top of the standings.

Meanwhile, Morocco came from behind to defeat Niger 2-1 win in Oujda. Youssef Oumarou put the Menas in front in the 47th minute but the Atlas Lions found their way back thanks to Ismael Saibari and Bilal El Khannouss to maintain their 100% record at the top of Group E.

In other results, Burkina Faso thumped Djibouti 4-1 to move into second place in Group A while Mohamed Salah and Zizo scored as leaders Egypt defeated Ethiopa 2-0 in Casablanca.

Theo Bongonda’s strike made the difference as DR Congo defeated South Sudan 1-0 to move level with Sudan in Group B while Evan Guessand’s effort helped reigning African champions Ivory Coast to a 1-0 win away at Burundi in Group F.


Algeria got the better of Botswana 3-1 in Group G while Guinea and Somalia played out a goalless draw and Equatorial Guinea edged past Sao Tome and Principe 2-0 in Group H.
