Players and officials of the Super Eagles have tendered an apology to Nigerians after their poor results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
The 2023 African Cup Of Nations finalists suffered a major setback in their qualification quest for the global showpiece with a shock 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic in Abidjan on Monday.
The defeat left the Super Eagles in a precarious position as they occupy the fifth position in Group C with three points after four games.
However, Benin Republic climbed to the top of the group on seven points after the win – the first in their history against Nigeria.
Upon their return to Nigeria on Tuesday, the Super Eagles players and coaching crew vowed to do everything humanly possible to secure the ticket for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2026.
We are back in the country and we are not happy about the way the two games panned out. We have had talks among ourselves and have resolved to fight hard till the end to ensure we do the impossible which is qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
