Kelechi Iheanacho’s equaliser salvaged a 1-1 draw for Nigeria against Zimbabwean in their second FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifying fixture on Sunday.
The Leicester City forward was among the three changes made by Peseiro at the break when the three-time African champions were trailing 1-0.
Walter Musona gave Zimbabwe an early lead in first half with a well-taken free-kick in the 25th minute.
Iheanacho came off the bench alongside Victor Boniface and Bright Osayi-Samuel to replace Frank Onyeka, debutant Nathan Tella and Ola Aina and his 65th-minute got a point for the visitors in Rwanda.
Nigeria have now settled for back-to-back draws in their opening games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
They are behind South Africa in after Banyana Banyana overcame Gernot Rohr’s Benin 2-1 on Saturday.
Sunday’s game was Nigeria’s last competitive fixture before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast that starts on January 13., their next World Cup qualifier is against South Africa in June 2024.
