Senegal moved to the top of Group B in the African qualifiers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after coming back from two goals down to defeat DR Congo 3-2 in Kinshasa on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.
The Leopards were leading the Teranga Lions by one point going into the game and temporarily extended it when Cedric Bakambu and Yoane Wissa scored in the 26th and 33rd minute respectively.
Senegal however pulled one back through Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye in the 39th minuet before new Bayern Munich signing Nicolas Jackson leveled for 2-2 in the 53rd minute.
The game remained that way until Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matat Sarr popped up with the winner in the 87th minute for back-to-back goals having netted in the 2-0 win over Sudan previously.
Pape Thiaw’s side are now two points clear of the Congolese in Group B while Togo defeated Sudan 1-0 in the other simultaneous group game.

In other results of the day, Egypt and Burkina Faso played out a goalless draw in Group A while Sierra Leone defeated Sao Tome and Principe 2-0.
In Group D, Cape Verde stunned Cameroon 1-0 while in Group E, 10-man Niger edged Tanzania 1-0 in Zanzibar.
In Group F, Ryan Ogam and Michael Olunga netted braces as Kenya thumped Seychelles 5-0 while Namibia got the better of Sao Tome and Principe with a 3-0 in Group H.
