2026 WCQ: Osimhen, Arokodare in Uyo as Super Eagles camp reach full capacity

2026 WCQ: Super Eagles fumble as Zimbabwe secure late draw in Uyo

The Super Eagles camp in Uyo reached maximum capacity on Wednesday night, following the arrivals of five new players, Afrosport reports.

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman and Greek-based striker Cyriel Dessers arrived earlier in the day to take the number of players at their Four Points by Sheraton Hotel base to 18.

However, Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen and Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika as well as the trio of Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare and Christantus Uche – who all sealed deadline day moves – have touched down in Uyo.

The Super Eagles camp opened on Monday but Eric Chelle and his technical team held their first training session on Tuesday night, intensifying preparations for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa.

With the full 23 invited players now settled, Chelle can ramp up his tactical adjustments ahead of Saturday’s clash against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. The Eagles will then head to Bloemfontein to take on Bafana Bafana at the Toyota Stadium on Tuesday, 9 September.

Nigeria need to win both games if they are to remain on course for World Cup qualification. The three-time African champions sit fourth in Group C with seven points, one behind second-placed Rwanda and five adrift leaders South Africa.
