2026 WCQ: Eze scores and Saka assists as England secure place in finals

Eberechi Eze was among the goalscorers while Bukayo provided an assist as England defeated Latvia 5-0 in Riga to secure their place in the finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Afrosport reports.

The Three Lions were four points clear of Albania in Group K of the European qualifiers and knew victory against the Latvians will send them through with two games to spare.

Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon got things off in the 26th minute before Saka set up Harry Kane, who returned from injury. The Bayern Munich star scored the third goal from the penalty spot in added time of the first half before Maksims Tonisevs put the ball into his own net in the 58th minute.

Eze came off the bench for Morgan Rogers on the hour mark and scored the final goal in the 86th minute off an assist from Jarrod Bowen to make England become the first European team to reach next year’s tournament in North America.

In the other Group K game, Serbia defeated Andorra 3-1 to move within a point of Albania.

In Group E, Spain defeated Bulgaria 4-0 thanks to a brace from Mikel Merino, a Mikel Oyarzabal penalty and an Atanas Chernev own goal while Turkey thumped Georgia 4-1.

In Group F, Cristiano Ronaldo netted a brace as Portugal were held to a 2-2 draw with Hungary in Lisbon while Ireland edged 10-man Armenia 1-0.

Four-time world champions Italy moved within three points of Group I leaders Norway with a 3-0 win over Israel while Estonia and Moldova played out a 1-1 draw.
