Former Nigerian defender Sam Sodje is confident the Super Eagles can secure an automatic spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite their inconsistent run of form in the qualifiers, Afrosport reports.
Eric Chelle’s men are six points behind South Africa in Group C after recording their first home win in the series in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo.
They could go three points behind Bafana Bafana if they triumph over them on Tuesday in Bloemfontein, and Sodje believes the quality in the squad can make the difference.
“Yes, the situation doesn’t look good right now, but I’ve always believed we will qualify,” the five-time capped Nigerian told NFF TV.
“With the calibre of players we have, many of whom are excelling in Europe, I am confident they will rise to the occasion.
“They know how disastrous it would be if Nigeria fails to qualify. No player wants that stain on their name. It’s difficult, but difficulties are there to be overcome.”
