2026 WCQ: Eritrean referee Tsegay to oversee Super Eagles, Zimbabwe clash in Uyo

Report: Super Eagles bow to Guinea-Bissau in AFCON 2023 qualifiers

The world football governing body, FIFA, has selected Eritrean referee Teklu Mogos Tsegay to oversee the 2026 World Cup qualifying fixture between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Zimbabwe, Afrosport reports.

Tsegay will be supported by his fellow countrymen as assistant referee 1, assistant referee 2 and fourth official. Eyobel Michael and Mengis Sirak Samuel will serve as assistant referee 1 and assistant referee 2, respectively.

Meanwhile, FIFA has appointed Ghanaian Prosper Harrison Addo as the match commissioner, while Burkina Faso’s Paulin Ilboudo has been selected as referee assessor.

The Super Eagles will face the Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday in a must-win matchday six fixture in the World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria, with six points after five games, occupies the fifth position in Group C, while the Warriors, led by German coach Michael Nees, are bottom of the group with three points.
