2026 WCQ: Chelle leads early arrivals as Super Eagles set up base in Polokwane

Chelle focused on securing victory over Russia after Unity Cup triumph

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle and his technical team have arrived in Polokwane, South Africa, ahead of Friday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, Afrosport reports.

The Nigerian delegation, including backroom staff, are based at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane as preparations begin for the matchday nine encounter.

Reports suggest some players have already arrived in Johannesburg and are expected to touchdown in Polokwane on Monday. The rest of the squad are also expected to join camp by evening.

The Super Eagles will hold their first training session on Tuesday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, which will also host Friday’s clash with the Crocodiles.

Nigeria, with 11 points from eight matches, sit third in Group C — three points behind leaders Benin Republic and South Africa. The three-time African champions will face the Benin Cheetahs on Tuesday, 14 October.
