The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Pot One of the African draws for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America.
Following their recent rise in the newly released FIFA ranking, Nigeria will be joined in Pot One by African giants like Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali, and Egypt.
With the continent guaranteed a historic nine spots in the Mundial, the above-named countries will be drawn into nine groups of six teams each, and the winners of each of the groups will qualify automatically for the tournament.
The four best runner-up teams will compete in a CAF playoff tournament, and the winner of the four-team competition will represent Africa in a FIFA Playoff tournament, which could see the continent end with ten teams in the World Cup.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the last edition of the tournament in Qatar in 2022 but are now presented with a better chance of making it to their seventh World Cup.
The draws for the African qualifiers will be conducted on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
