Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named a 38-player preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan next month, Afrosport reports.
South Africa will play Uganda away and face South Sudan at home a few days later during the November international break when the squad will be trimmed to 23 players.
Some of the new faces in the preliminary squad include Stellenbosch F’s Sage Stephens, Polokwane City FC duo Thabang Matuludi and Ndamulelo Maphangule, and Richards Bay FC forward Yanela Mbuthuma.
Minnesota United forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane has also been included after impressing in Major League Soccer in the United States. Al Ahly forward Percy Tau also returns after missing last month’s qualifiers against the Republic of Congo.
South Africa need just two more points from their remaining two AFCON qualifiers to secure their place in next year’s tournament in Morocco.
