AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: South Africa announce preliminary squad

AFCON 2023: South Africans didn’t believe in Bafana Bafana – Broos

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has announced his 38-man preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

South Africa are getting ready to launch their Group K campaign with games against South Sudan and Uganda in September.

Key players like captain Ronwen Williams, talisman Percy Tau, Teboho Mokoena, Lyle Foster and Elias Mokwana made the cut.

Broos’ final 23-man squad will be named in the coming days ahead of the two matches.

Neither Uganda nor South Sudan has a record of a win over South Africa in a competitive fixture, a run that could spur Bafana Bafana to make a statemen in September.

Since their third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, South Africa are on a four-game unbeaten run, with their most recent games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers ending in 3-1 win against Zimbabwe and a 1-1 draw against Nigeria.
