In the final of the men’s javelin throw at the 13th edition of the African Games, Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi won a gold medal for Nigeria on Friday, the country’s second gold medal of the day.
The 21-year-old broke his own National Record, setting a new one with a throw of 82.80 metres, opting not use his last attempt as his competitors failed to reach the 82m mark.

Chinecherem beats Kenya’s Julius Yego, who won the silver medal with a throw of 81.74m, to the title at the UGH Legon Stadium in Accra, Ghana.
Mahmoud Mostafa Abdel Khaliq finished in third place to win the bronze medal with his 78.10m attempt, while his countryman Ihab Abdelrahman finished fourth with 76.68m.
Three other Nigerians were scheduled to partake in the javelin final but the duo of Samuel Osadolor and Nmesirronye Emeka were DNS, as they did not start the event, while Samuel Kure missed out on the podium with a fifth place finish after his throw of 76.28m.
