Usheoritse Itsekiri followed up Olayinka Olajide’s bronze medal in the women’s 100m final with a silver medal in the men’s 100-metre event at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.
The Nigerian national champion, who ranked the second fastest time during the heats, finished second in a breathtaking race that saw him clock a time of 10.23 seconds (-0.8).

The 26-year-old, a bronze medallist last time out in Rabat in 2019, finished behind Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, who emerged champion to win the gold medal in 10.14 seconds.
Itsekiri’s compatriot, Consider Ekanem, who was excellent all through the heats, missed out on a podium finish, as he placed fourth with a time of 10.42 seconds, while Namibia’s Gilbert Hainuca claimed the got bronze medal in 10.29 seconds.
