The Ghana U-20 women’s national team came from behind to defeat Nigeria 2-1 after extra time and claim the women’s football gold medal at the 2023 Africa Games on home soil.
The Falconets were strong favourites going into the contest in Cape Coast having won all their games and kept clean sheets in them, and it seemed it was going to continue when Edeh Njideka put them in front in the 23rd minute.

Nigeria’s clean sheet record was however broken when Tracey Twum equalised for Ghana in the 77th minute before Abiba Issah popped up with the winner in the 98th minute of extra time, handing Ghana their second African Games gold medal and first since 2015.

Uganda meanwhile overcame Senegal 6-5 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes to claim the women’s football bronze medal.
