Wrexham sign Conor Coady from Leicester City

Wrexham have secured the signing of experienced centre-back Conor Coady from Championship rivals Leicester City for a reported fee of £2 million, Afrosport reports.

The 32-year-old England international has agreed to a two-year deal with the option of a third, joining a club making significant moves ahead of their return to the second tier for the first time in 43 years.

Coady, who has made 198 Premier League appearances and captained Wolverhampton Wanderers during their successful European run and back-to-back seventh-place finishes, expressed his delight at the move.

“I’m over the moon. It’s a special day, I’ll be honest,” he told the club website. “We’ve all seen what the club has achieved over the past few years. To now be part of it is really special, and I can’t wait to meet the boys and get started.”

With 10 England caps to his name, Coady brings top-level experience to Wrexham, having featured in squads for both Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

His arrival also marks another bold statement from Wrexham, whose ambitious recruitment drive has already seen them twice break their transfer record this summer, first for Empoli left-back Liberato Cacace, followed by the acquisition of Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

That record could be shattered again soon, with the club reportedly in advanced talks over a £7.5 million move for Wales and Ipswich Town forward Nathan Broadhead. Wrexham are also aiming to ffinalise  deal for Sheffield United striker and fellow Wales international Kieffer Moore.
