Women’s Euro 2025: Agyemang scores as England beat Sweden on penalties

Michelle Agyemang came off the bench to score a decisive equaliser as reigning Women’s Euro champions, England, came from behind to defeat Sweden on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra time, Afrosport reports.

The Lionesses were behind after 25 minutes as Kosovare Asllani and Stina Blackstenius found the back of the net for the Swedish ladies.

The Scandinavian side were in control of the encounter in Zurich and looked like they were going to end England’s journey in Switzerland until veteran full-back Lucy Bronze pulled one goal back in the 79th minute.

It did not take too long for Sarina Wiegman’s ladies to find another goal as Agyemang, who came on for Georgia Stanway, tucked the ball in from close range two minutes later.

The game went to extra time and ultimately penalties where England missed three consecutive spot kicks while Jennifer Falk failed to convert what could have been the winner for Sweden after two earlier misses of their own, and forced sudden death.

Grace Clinton missed for England while Sofia Jakobsson and Smilla Holmberg missed for the Swedes, leaving Bronze’s conversation as the ultimate decider for a 3-2 shootout victory.

The Lionesses will next face Italy for the chance to make it back-to-back finals.
